Meet the Candidates: CVUSD School Board Forum on October 7
The general election is just around the corner, and few races will shape daily life in the Eastern Coachella Valley as directly as the one for our local school board. The people elected to the Coachella Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees make decisions that reach every classroom, every campus, and every family in our community. They set budgets, approve curriculum, shape discipline and student support policies, and decide how resources are shared across our schools. In short, they help shape our children’s futures every single day.
That’s why Alianza Coachella Valley is inviting the community to come meet the candidates face to face.

What: Meet the CVUSD School Board Candidates Forum
When: Wednesday, October 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Where: Coachella Library (1500 6th St, Coachella, CA 92236)
Cost: Free and open to the community
Childcare and Spanish interpretation will be provided, and we’ll have tacos and refreshments to share with neighbors.
Opening with the Assembly District 36 Race
We’re also pleased to share that the evening will open with the two candidates running to represent California Assembly District 36: Republican Jeff Gonzalez and Democrat Dr. Ida Obeso-Martinez. Our Assembly representative carries our region’s priorities to Sacramento, from education funding to environmental health to infrastructure, so this is a valuable chance to hear from both candidates before you cast your ballot.
Following the Assembly candidates, the CVUSD School Board candidates will take the floor to share their vision for our schools and answer questions from the community.
Your Questions Matter
This forum is about making sure the candidates hear what families in our community care about most. Maybe you want to know how they’ll support English learners, improve school safety, expand mental health resources, strengthen communication with parents, or invest in our students’ futures after graduation. Whatever is on your mind, we want to help you ask it.
Submit your questions in advance by emailing braxton@alianzacv.org. We’ll gather what we receive and bring your questions to the forum so that community voices guide the conversation. You’re also welcome to share your questions on our social media channels.
Why It Matters
Local elections are often decided by a small number of votes, and school board races in particular can feel far away until a decision lands at your child’s school. Showing up, listening, and asking questions is one of the most powerful ways we can make sure the people representing us understand our community’s needs. Alianza Coachella Valley is a nonpartisan organization, and we don’t endorse candidates. Our goal is to create space for families to get informed and make their own choices.
