The Campaign for Elevating Coachella Valley Schools is an initiative by Alianza Coachella Valley in collaboration with community partners to ensure that all students in the Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) thrive in environments that are supportive, inclusive, and inspiring. Elevating School Climate

Students succeed when they have a strong school climate that is encouraging and welcoming. This requires transforming how schools approach discipline by seeking measures that repair harm by restoring relationships, making amends, and being accountable for our behaviors. Our campaign is elevating school climate by advocating for:

  • Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP): Working to ensure that the LCAP prioritizes a positive school climate through the implementation of restorative justice policies, practices and investments.
  • Discipline Reform: Ensuring discipline policies and practices are clear, consistent, and in alignment with restorative justice principles: prioritize prevention, conflict resolution, and student support.

Elevating Learning Spaces

Students and educators spend the majority of the week in their schools. Reimagining school campuses as vibrant, nurturing spaces will inspire creativity and promote wellness. Our campaign is elevating learning spaces by advocating for:

  • Campus Enhancements: Advocating to secure funding and prioritize support to improve school grounds. This includes making aesthetics more vibrant and colorful, supporting new gathering spaces that reflect student voice and cultural pride, and fostering spaces that encourage community building.

After successfully advocating for restorative justice funding in the CVUSD for the last several years, it is our goal to increase restorative justice practices in more school districts across the Coachella Valley and California.
