Our Accomplishments
Alianza Coachella Valley, previously established as Building Healthy Communities, has been proud to serve the Eastern Coachella Valley community since 2010. This timeline highlights our remarkable journey, showcasing the milestones and achievements that have shaped our impact in the community. From our founding to present day, each accomplishment reflects our commitment to making a difference and fostering positive change.

Launched the Campaign for Thriving Salton Sea Communities to address the environmental, public health, and economic concerns of the Salton Sea region in both the Coachella and Imperial Valleys and accelerate collaborative solutions.

Engaged the Eastern Coachella Valley community in the process of forming and approving an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) to provide much needed infrastructure upgrades in the region, without raising taxes.

Executive Director Silvia Paz attended Governor Schwarzenegger’s Roundtable on Lithium Valley and advocated for improved infrastructure in the ECV.

Executive Director Silvia Paz spoke directly with President Joe Biden about the potential lithium extraction holds for building up communities around the Salton Sea.

Worked with our Census partners to ensure thousands of residents in the Eastern Coachella Valley completed the 2020 census through a pledge card drive and door-to-door canvassing.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Alianza delivered almost 5,000 boxes of food and produce, made over 45,000 phone calls about testing and vaccine opportunities, distributed hundreds of thousands of gloves, masks, face shields, hand sanitizers, and provided over $2 million in cash assistance to over 2,300 individuals.

Worked with school district leaders to start a pilot project introducing restorative justice at Bobby Duke Middle School in Coachella, before expanding these efforts to four middle schools — giving educators new disciplinary tools that keep students in the classroom.

Organized the Eastern Coachella Valley’s first LGBTQ Pride Festival, which is now an annual event.

Secured funding to expand an Affordable Care Act health insurance enrollment campaign that reduced the eligible but uninsured population by 45,000.

In response to residents’ concerns, Alianza worked with the water district to form the Disadvantaged Community Infrastructure Task Force to work on water quality and service issues.

Alianza advocated for the Coachella Valley Water District to change from an all at-large board to a district board, helping ensure better minority representation at a government agency serving many disadvantaged areas.

Gave residents of North Shore a vital link to shopping, jobs, and health care by successfully lobbying for the first public bus route serving that community.

Created and passed legislation that set new statewide standards for arsenic filtration systems and water billing in mobile home parks.

Organized The Hue, an annual youth-led music and arts celebration hosted and organized by Alianza’s Youth Organizing Council (YO-C).

Improved air quality in low-income neighborhoods by helping secure funding for paved roads in nearly 40 Eastern Coachella Valley mobile home parks.
