Alianza Coachella Valley Opposes Proposed Data Centers in the City of Coachella

A data center with a red x over it.

Alianza Coachella Valley stands firmly against the proposed data centers slated for the City of Coachella. As an organization rooted in advocating for the health, dignity, and future of our community, we cannot remain silent when a proposed project poses a direct threat to the well-being of the people and the land we serve.

The Coachella Valley is already one of the most heat-impacted regions in the nation. Our communities bear the burden of extreme temperatures that grow more severe every year, and our water supply faces mounting pressure from drought and climate change. Data centers are among the most resource-intensive industrial operations in existence, consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water, and generating significant heat. Siting them here, in a desert valley already under environmental stress, is not a neutral or technical decision. It is one that will make life harder for the tens of thousands of people who call this valley home.

The community has spoken clearly. The vast majority of Coachella Valley residents oppose these data centers. Their voices deserve to be heard and respected by decision-makers, not dismissed in favor of corporate interests that offer little in return to the people most affected.

Development in our valley must serve our community. Projects that come to Coachella should bring quality jobs, environmental relief, affordable housing, and lasting investment in the people who live here. A data center does not meet that bar. It compounds the challenges our residents already face without delivering the benefits our community needs and deserves.

Alianza Coachella Valley calls on city and regional leaders to reject these proposals and to center the well-being of our community in every land use decision. We will continue to organize, advocate, and stand alongside our neighbors to ensure that the future of this valley is built with us, not at our expense.
