Restorative Justice Receives Funding in the 2024-25 CVUSD LCAP

The CVUSD School Board passed the 2024-2025 Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP) on June 27, 2024 and we are pleased to say that they have included funding for restorative justice for the next school year!

Investing in restorative justice in our schools is an important first step to replacing punitive discipline practices with interventions that focus on building community, accountability and an overall positive school environment. We are thankful to all of our partners and community members who showed up to board meetings to advocate for restorative justice.

Now, we are asking for the district to provide a concrete and publicly available restorative justice implementation plan. It is vital that the plan incorporates community outreach to assess the needs of our students and families, includes comprehensive and ongoing restorative justice training for all school and district staff, establishes evaluation metrics to determine what is working and what needs more focus and aligns school policies and procedures with restorative justice principles.

Read more about why an implementation plan is important in an op-ed written by Brandon Ulloa, Community Justice Campaign Manager, in The Desert Sun titled, “Funding restorative justice for our schools is the first step – now it’s time for a plan.”
