Climate Resiliency Bond Signed by Governor Newsom
Governor Gavin Newsom has signed SB 867, the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024, for inclusion on the November 2024 General Election ballot. This bond, if approved by voters, would allocate $170 million to the Salton Sea to address air quality, public health, and habitat restoration.
Alianza’s Resilient Salton Sea Steering Committee spent a lot of time calling legislators to ensure that the Salton Sea was included in this important climate resiliency bond, and we are thrilled that voters will have the chance to vote on this in November. Special thanks to Aydee P., Juliana T., Guadalupe L., Daniela P., Cinthia C., Yazmen P., Magdalena M., Manuela R., Alisson G., Kamillah P., Itzel D., Beatriz F., Liliana V., Yuriria L., Moises C., Sonia B., Elizabeth J., Griselda G., Esperanza S., Erika G., and Lidia R. for their outreach efforts to make this climate bond a reality.
