NILDA RUIZ
Special Projects Manager
After migrating to the U.S. from Mexico, Nilda Ruiz’s family lived in Thermal before moving to Coachella where she grew up and went on to graduate from Coachella Valley High School. Nilda’s interest in conservation biology, environmental sciences, and education led her to attend the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Conservation and Resource Studies and a minor in math and science education. Her passion for environmental and social justice brought her to Alianza. She enjoys learning more about the Eastern Coachella Valley through her work and connecting with community members across Alianza’s various campaigns. Prior to her current role, Nilda led Alianza’s environmental justice efforts as a campaign coordinator.
Before joining Alianza, Nilda interned with the office of Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia where she assisted constituents and pursued a project on proposed composting regulations. She also worked as a community co-manager at the Restorative Justice Center at UC Berkeley. Upon returning to the Coachella Valley, she worked at Lift to Rise as a program coordinator. Outside of work, Nilda loves to exercise, spend time with her pet corgi, and watch anime and Star Wars. Nilda also serves on the Board of Directors for Cal Bears in the Desert and volunteers with ECV for Change.
